“It’s just a short hike...”

“...4 miles! Round trip!”

That sounded so reasonable when we set out.

That is, until we realized that one ends up going uphill almost half a mile doing so.

“Isn’t Thor the storm king?”

“I think he’s the Norse god of thunder.”

“Oh… That’s Chris Pratt’s character, right?”

“Chris Hemsworth played Thor. Pratt was the guy in Guardians of the Galaxy.”

The flat forest trails of Olympic National Park had given way to inclined switchbacks.

As the hike turned into more of a climb, we came to a point where Lake Crescent stretched through the valley far below us.

The view was worth the effort.
