Yellowstone's Grand Prismatic Spring is iconic.
It's the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world!
The bright colors are the result of different microbes that live at various temperature points in the spring, but in the middle the deep blue is sterilized water so hot that nothing can live there.
The colors of the spring vary depending on the time of year.
There is a boardwalk that leads visitors up near the edge (hold onto your hats, though... it gets windy, and once they blow off the boardwalk, they're gone for good).
For a better view, some guests opt for the overlook on the Fairy Falls Trail.
